Next to the Apartheid Museum is Gold Reef City, a theme park which recreates life from late 19th and early 20th Century Johannesburg. You can look at various historical reconstructions including mine official’s houses from the turn of the century; go down a shaft to see the underground workings of a gold mine approx. 220m below the surface; or watch gold being poured. You can also enjoy a show of “Gumboot” dancing or visit the arts and crafts centre.
