A visit to the Pilanesberg Game Reserve is a must. Two and a half hours from Joburg it is the fourth largest game park in South Africa, is malaria-free and is home to the big 5 as well as giraffe, zebra, hippos and crocodiles and many antelope species.
We enjoy a scenic 1.5hr drive with the Magaliesberg Mountains as back drop to the Haartebeesport Dam. Once at the Elephant Sanctuary a sanctuary guide takes us on an educational tour and talks to us about elephant life.
